Old Hungary
Compiled by Jason Morningstar
In Hungary, the surname is placed first. A woman’s formal name is constructed from her husband’s name by adding a suffix (-ne) to his given name. So Mr. Molnár Jakab’s wife would be Molnár Jakabne in polite company, but perhaps Anna at home. These lists are from around 1500.
